Real steam power is common in 7 1/2 gauge. Our engine looks like a steam locomotive but she is not.
Two, twelve volt batteries inside the rear tank power a 5/8 HP electric motor in the rear truck. Soon, we hope to add a sound system to add sound to the illusion.
While the aesthetics of real steam can’t be beat, this was far beyond my budget. Besides being much cheaper, electric power is safer, cleaner, and far more simple to run. Electric powered model locomotives have been the mainstay of model railroading “forever”. Our’s just happens to be somewhat larger 🙂
