The Path Less Traveled…..”Rethinking model railroading”

A little less than five years ago, I started “Bountyland Railway”.  After more than five decades in the model railroad hobby, I wanted to try a totally different approach.  My aim was to build an actual but miniature tourist line railroad.  One by which one could experience railroading up close in a personal, hands-on way.  The challenge was to do this on a very limited budget and shoe-horn it into my back yard.  After the false starts which often accompany learning as you go, I feel we are now reaching a level of success.

The format chosen was 7 1/2 gauge but using very large, narrow gauge trains…………Trains large enough to ride IN, not ride ON, as is usual for 7 1/2.  Our little railway is patterned after (I hesitate to use the term “modeled” as I am not building true scale models) the two foot “WW&F Narrow Gauge Rail Museum” in Alna, Maine.
